Noriko Tadano is an award-winning, virtuoso master of the Japanese shamisen (a 3-string, banjo-like instrument) and a traditional Japanese vocalist, who has performed within Australia and internationally. She has been playing shamisen since she was 6 years old and performs both as a soloist, as well as in collaborations. Noriko’s ability and drive to cross over between traditional and modern Japanese music has recently seen her perform with renowned world musicians as well as traditional Japanese artists. Noriko grew up in Japan and moved to Australia in 2004. She now resides in Adelaide, South Australia.
Noriko has performed at many Australian festivals such as WOMADelaide, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Woodford. She has also appeared on national TV programs and been involved in theatre productions. More recently Noriko completed a successful development as part of the Adelaide Festival Centre’s 2020 inSpace program and was also selected as a member in the Nexus Arts Orchestra that performed for the ‘Aus Day in the Arena’ at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Jan 2021.
