Kathryn Hunyor is a Japanese-speaking Curator, Consultant and Speaker, with over 25 years’ experience working with Japan. She is the Founder and Director of ArtsPeople, an arts company and curatorial consultancy.

Kathryn collaborates with artists and presenters to create contemporary art and design projects between Sydney and Tokyo. Recent works include Jurassic Plastic with Hiroshi Fuji for Sydney Festival (2018), Join the Dots for Sydney Opera House (2018), Tanabata with Slow Art Collective (2013-2016), Art Ninjas at Barangaroo (2016) and Farming Tokyo with Stephen Mushin (2014).

In 2021 The Japan Foundation, Sydney & ArtsPeople co-produced a mini-documentary about Jurassic Plastic and the work of Hiroshi Fuji, titled The Story of Jurassic Plastic.

Kathryn also works as a cross-cultural consultant to major arts companies including; Sydney Opera House, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Art Gallery NSW and Spiral Tokyo (Wacoal Art Centre); government departments such as The Japan Foundation and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; and private companies including Lendlease and Architectus.

Kathryn is regularly invited to speak, write and advise on a range of topics, including Japanese art and culture, participatory arts projects, arts programming between Australia and Japan, and cultural diplomacy.

Former Head of Creative Programs at the Australian Design Centre, Kathryn led the ADC’s artistic program. Prior to that she was Cultural Officer at the Australian Embassy Tokyo, where she managed the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade’s cultural diplomacy efforts in Japan.

She holds a Bachelor of Asian Studies & Masters in Japanese Literature from the University of Sydney.
