Kuniko Nakano has been a practicing member of the Ohara School of Ikebana in Sydney for over 25 years.

Her interest in Ikebana began during childhood back in Japan where her mother, who was amongst the first generation of female dentists in Japan, would use materials from her own garden to create flower arrangements in her patients’ waiting room. Kuniko still recalls the sense of calm that would emanate from the simple arrangements, and couldn’t help but feel the flowers must have helped calm and heal the patients’ souls.

Kuniko is certified as a top instructor of Ikebana, having attended the Ohara School of Ikebana Master Course in Tokyo and Osaka in 2012 and 2017 and taught by Iemoto Hiroki Ohara, an honour reserved only for the highest rank teachers of Ikebana.

Kuniko has been honoured to receive the Award of Appreciation for Contribution to Cross Cultural Relations with Australia from the Japanese Consul General of Australia in 2016. She has also had the pleasure of doing demonstrations at the Cowra Japanese Gardens, Auburn Cherry Festival, the Australia Japan Society’s anniversary, the exhibition for the Consul General’s residence, the Japanese Disaster Charity Function amongst others, as well as teaching Ikebana at Sydney Community College for over 10 years.

Best thing was the tutor (Mrs. Kuniko Nakano). She was fun, knowledgeable and a great teacher. I
will certainly consider taking further courses of hers – Philippa

Mrs. Nakano is an excellent teacher. The course teaches you the basics of Ikebana and is very handson, which I loved. Kuniko and her assistant helped us to make the right choices in composition and we
were treated a wonderful presentation of compositions by the teacher at the end of the course. Very
enjoyable – Agathe

The tutor (Mrs. Kuniko Nakano) was charismatic & knowledgeable – Lisa
